My goal is to help people understand and change long-standing patterns of behavior and/or thoughts that interfere with their ability to achieve happiness and fulfillment. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, eating and weight problems, and reactions to trauma (PTSD). I also help people with difficulties at work or school, life-transitions, parenting or caregiver challenges, sexual concerns, infertility, and grief/loss. I offer insight-oriented therapy in 45- or 60-minute sessions at a frequency that is manageable but promotes optimal change for each client.
My approach integrates psychoanalytic theory and contemporary neuroscience while encouraging mind-body practices and behavioral changes outside the session. In my work with couples, I help them to see how their previous relationships and experiences may play out in their current relationship, while encouraging positive relationship "habits" to improve connection and intimacy. Perhaps the most therapeutic aspect of therapy with me is my optimism and positive vision for my patients' lives, and a belief that people can change and heal through self- understanding, compassion, and effort. Following therapy, many patients report new or more fulfilling relationships, increased job satisfaction, enhanced body image and self-compassion, improved self-expression and assertiveness, significantly reduced symptomatology, and achievement of life goals.
My office is centrally located just minutes from Annapolis and convenient to Route 50 and 97. People typically find my office to be a private, comfortable, and safe environment for this work.
